Hi! We’re a small family business with Sri Lankan roots and a big love for cooking.

Our story begins in the 1990s, when our family moved to Switzerland seeking safety and a fresh start during the civil war in Sri Lanka.

Cooking has always been our way of staying connected — to home and to each other.
In every recipe, every spice blend, and every dish we prepare, there’s a piece of our heritage and heart.

In 2005, we turned our passion into something more — we opened our own restaurant.
Since then, we’ve been sharing the vibrant flavors and rich traditions of Sri Lanka with our Swiss community.

Wir waren im Restaurant Spicy in Basel und rundum begeistert! Das Essen war einfach hervorragend – wir hatten Kottu Rotti, Dosa und Biryani. Alle Gerichte waren frisch zubereitet, wunderbar gewürzt und geschmacklich top. Besonders das Kottu Rotti war ein echtes Highlight. Die Bedienung war sehr herzlich, aufmerksam und hat uns freundlich beraten. Man fühlt sich sofort willkommen. Ein tolles Erlebnis – wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Ich hatte ein Chicken Kottu Rotti bestellt – es schmeckte wirklich gut und die Schärfe war einfach perfekt. Auch der Service war ausgezeichnet.

Wenn Sie auf der Suche nach authentischen Aromen aus Sri Lanka im Herzen von Basel sind, ist Spicy ein absolutes Muss. Dieses gemütliche Restaurant serviert traditionelle Gerichte voller Gewürze, Farben und Leidenschaft.Während meines Besuchs habe ich das Chicken Curry mit Reis probiert, und ich kann mit Sicherheit sagen, dass es der Höhepunkt der Mahlzeit war. Das Huhn war wunderbar zart, perfekt gegart in einer cremigen und ausgewogenen Sauce mit genau dem richtigen Mass an Schärfe – wärmend, aber nicht überwältigend. Der gedämpfte Reis war schlicht, aber ideal, um die Sauce aufzusaugen und jeden Bissen geschmackvoll zu machen.Das Personal war freundlich und hilfsbereit und erklärte gerne die Gerichte – ideal auch für diejenigen, die die srilankische Küche noch nicht kennen. Die Atmosphäre ist sauber, einfach, aber liebevoll gestaltet – man fühlt sich sofort willkommen.Fazit: Spicy ist ein kleiner Geheimtipp für alle Liebhaber der authentischen asiatischen Küche, mit grosszügigen Portionen, fairen Preisen und einem herzlichen Service.Empfehlung: Chicken Curry, Kottu Roti und die vegetarischen Spezialitäten.
